What the venue brings to your group
A wellness retreat is not a stay like any other. Your participants come looking for something specific: to step out of the noise, to slow down, to return to themselves. They arrive saturated with notifications, meetings, commutes. They do not come only to rest physically, but to leave the general clutter behind.
And that clutter does not dissolve on command. You can offer the finest sessions, set the truest of intentions: if the venue does not support the effort, you are rowing against the current.
This is where the setting comes in. An estate set far from the roads, surrounded by forest, where the only background sound is the wind, installs the disconnection without your having to ask for it. Your participants feel it the moment they arrive. It is already there, in the air, in the light, in the absence of any demand.
In this kind of stay, the venue carries a considerable share of the work. The rest is yours: your teaching, your presence, your programme.
The 5 criteria of a successful retreat venue
Genuine isolation
Cutting off from daily life becomes natural when daily life is out of reach. An estate surrounded by meadows and forest, with no road nearby and no visible neighbours, gives your participants a clear boundary between what they leave and what they have come to find. They cross it on arrival, and no longer have to think about it.
This isolation is measured in distance and in quiet. Ask about the immediate surroundings of the venue: the distance to the nearest neighbour, how close the main roads are, the calm of the area.
Silence, your best equipment
The return to what matters passes through the ears before anything else. In a city, attention stays permanently alert, ready to sort through sounds. On an estate where you hear the wind in the branches, the crows in the distance and nothing else, that vigilance settles on its own.
It is a release your participants cannot decide on. The place offers it to them, or it does not come. No mat, no cushion, no playlist will replace it.
Complete privatisation
A group on retreat gradually builds a bubble. Trust settles in, words come more freely, bodies relax. It takes a single outside glance for all of it to close up again.
Total privatisation, indoors and out, is not a comfort: it shapes the quality of what happens within your group.
Spaces that welcome movement
A retreat plays out as much in the moments of practice as in the ones around them. So you need a room large enough to gather the whole group, warm enough that people want to stay in it. A bright, spacious room, with wood, generous height and natural light, holds the morning session, the afternoon talking circle and the evening’s sharing.
This shared room does a great deal for the overall atmosphere. It also makes your organisation easier: you move from one key moment to the next in the same place, without shifting the group or resetting the equipment each time. A single gathering place is worth more than three scattered rooms.
Check the ceiling height, the orientation of the windows, whether the room can be cleared. And look outside: a flat spot, sheltered from view, transforms a morning session as soon as the season allows.
Accommodation under one roof
A retreat does not stop at the end of the last session. In the evening, in the ease that follows dinner, the truest exchanges often happen. A confidence that would not have come out in the circle. A question asked in a low voice.
If your participants leave to sleep elsewhere, that continuity breaks each evening and is rebuilt each morning. An estate that houses everyone under one roof keeps the thread from the first day to the last.

Extending your retreat with activities in nature
Some organisers like to punctuate their programme with a slightly different moment.
We have a catalogue of activities in nature that we can offer you, if it serves your project. A guided walk in the forest, a moment at the sheepfold, an introduction to beekeeping, a tasting that celebrates our region and the artisans who keep it alive.
Nothing is imposed. These are suggestions that come alongside your programme, never in its place.
Let’s imagine your retreat together
A question? A request? A project?
Tell us your availability, a number of participants, your programme. We will get back to you as soon as possible to imagine, with you, the stay that suits you.
